Green River Animal Control Will Not Purchase New Euthanasia Equipment

Currently, Green River Animal Control uses carbon monoxide through gas cylinders for euthanasia of animals. “It’s in a manner that’s consistent with the National Veterinarian Association’s guidelines for euthanasia,” Green River Police Chief Tom Jarvie said. Out of the approximate 900 animals the shelter gets every year, about 10 percent have to be euthanized for different reasons such as the animal being vicious, sick, or otherwise unable to adopt out. According to Jarvie, the majority of the animals euthanized are wild animals, while feral cats also make up a large portion. He said very few pets have to be euthanized.

Alternate Road Discussion Sees Mixed Opinions

GREEN RIVER  Members of the community gathered at the Sweetwater County Library Wednesday evening to discuss the possibility of an alternate road that locals would be able to travel between Green River and Rock Springs. On May 4, Representative Mark Baker, R-Green River, began discussions with the community regarding the alternate road, addressing both the Sweetwater County Commission and the Green River City Council. Baker’s goal is to find federal funding, with the backing of the Wyoming Department of Transportation, through the American Jobs Plan. The American Jobs Plan is President Joe Biden’s infrastructure proposal to invest $2 trillion in U.S. infrastructure over the next eight years.

Green River Celebrates National Police Week

GREEN RIVER The City of Green River is currently celebrating national Police Week, which runs May 9-15. The Green River City Council approved a proclamation at its meeting last week. The proclamation calls for all citizens to observe this Saturday as Peace Officers Memorial Day to honor those Peace Officers who, through their courageous deeds, have lost their lives or have become disabled in the performance of duty. Federal Funding Could Pay for Alternative Road Between Rock Springs and Green River

GREEN RIVER Representative Mark Baker, R-Green River, addressed both the Sweetwater County Commission and the Green River City Council on Tuesday to discuss a possible alternative road between Green River and Rock Springs. According to Baker, the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) has already applied for American Jobs Plan funding for projects on Wyoming’s roads and highways. The American Jobs Plan is President Joe Biden’s infrastructure proposal to invest $2 trillion in U.S. infrastructure over the next eight years. “The federal government is looking for big, big projects,” Baker said. “I can tell you WYDOT has already applied for the I25 and I80 interchange, which is $350 million. They’ve already applied to reroute Interstate 80 away from Arlington along Highway 30. That’s another huge hundreds and hundreds of million dollars project.” 

Legislator updates city council on state revenues, federal money

Green River Star -   May 6, 2021 Rep. Mark Baker, R-Green River, spoke briefly to the Green River City Council Tuesday night, providing an update on funding from the American Rescue Plan and revenue estimates for the state. Baker, who serves in House District 60, said the city should receive the first payment from the American Rescue Plan after the state receives money for cities and towns. The city is expected to receive $1.8 million from the plan, while the county is anticipating $8.2 million. Rock Springs is expected to receive $3.4 million, with each receiving half the payment this month, while the other half would be.
