GREEN RIVER The Green River City Council unanimously authorized the Green River Police Department (GRPD) to seek a children’s trust fund grant for a therapy canine program during their meeting Tuesday night.
GRPD Juvenile Detective Martha Holzgrafe identified programs in other states that utilize a therapy canine to assists victims during interviews and later court testimony and decided she wanted to initiate a program here in Green River. This therapy K9 program will be the first program in Wyoming.
Ninety percent of Detective Holzgrafe’s caseload involves kids who are either a victim, witness, or suspect to a crime, she said. When interviewing children, the kids disclose traumatic events. Nationwide, therapy K9s have been increasingly used during these forensic interviews.
SWEETWATER COUNTY Wyoming Downs, LLC will be conducting pari-mutuel wagering on live horse racing, historic racing, and simulcast events at the Town Bar & Grill in Green River after receiving unanimous approval from the Sweetwater County Commissioners Tuesday.
Andrew Hubert, Town Bar & Grill owner, said that the establishment previously had horse racing terminals from Wyoming Horse Racing, LLC, but they recently moved out of the Town Bar & Grill to set up their own establishment on Uinta Way.
Hubert said Wyoming Downs will be placing 27 terminals into the Town Bar & Grill, and that he will have to hire three to four more people to properly staff the restaurant and bar. He also said the machines will all be properly socially distanced to be COVID-19 Coronavirus compliant.

Revenue from sales tax receipts took a tumble in January, but the figures aren’t a cause of alarm for the City of Green River yet.
Chris Meats, the city’s finance director, said revenue is typically down in January as sales tax from Christmas shopping isn’t available for distribution to towns and cities.
Meats said revenue from sales tax, which accounts for 73% of the city’s total revenue, ranged between $767,000 and $700,000 since the start of the fiscal year, which began in June. January’s tax distribution amounted to $584,000.

GREEN RIVER In a special ceremony Tuesday evening, two newly elected and one re-elected Green River City Council members were officially sworn into office.
The three elected officials were sworn into office by City Judge Jason Petri at Green River City Hall. The ceremony took place prior to the City Council’s regular meeting.
The two newly elected officials are Sherry Bushman in Ward 1 and George Jost in Ward 2. Robert Berg in Ward 3 is the incumbent who was sworn in.

GREEN RIVER Wyoming Waste Systems will be implementing a rate increase for solid waste services beginning January 1, 2021.
In Wyoming Waste Sytems’ contract with the City of Green River, it states they are allowed to use the United States Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Consumer Pride Index (CPI) to determine rate increases and decreases.
The contract also states that all fee changes are subject to City Council approval, which will not be unreasonably withheld. The Green River City Council unanimously approved the rate increase.

Michelle Foote, Wyoming Waste Systems Site Manger, said during the November 17 meeting that the CPI for the parameters listed is at 1.37 percent. In dollar terms, it is a 45 cents per month increase for residential customers, and a $1.50 per month increase for small businesses.
