A complaint has been filed against Premier Blaine Higgs over a letter written by Energy Development Minister Mike Holland to the Energy and Utilities Board.
Liberal MLA Rob McKee complains the letter is a conflict of interest and Higgs should be responsible for interfereing, because Holland was acting on his behalf, according to CBC. Holland asked the board to rush its review of a request from Irving Oil for an increase in price margins that gas retailers are allowed to charge customers
The Liberals say Higgs, has a “private interest” in the EUB decision because he is a former Irving Oil executive. The government argues that there is no conflict for Higgs as he would not be financially better off no matter the decision.

Mike Cassidy, owner of Maritime Bus, says he hopes to start receiving some of the funds next month, but the buses will stay on the road in the meantime.(Steve Bruce/CBC) comments
Northern Maritime Bus routes will keep operating for at least another year.
The company was planning to end the the Campbellton-to-Moncton and Fredericton-to-Edmundston routes Sunday evening. But shared funding from federal and provincial coffers will subsidize the company that s been struggling with decreased ridership during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Maritime Bus will get $720,000 this year, according to a provincial news release. Maritime Bus is not eligible for various federal support programs, mainly because it is a for-profit enterprise. This is why Edmundston will get the money and give it to the company in turn.
