COVID-19 | The 2,363 cases detected among longhouse residents and healthcare workers in Sibu, Sarawak originated from an interstate traveller who underwent home quarantine.
Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah shared details about the Pasai Siong cluster in a press conference this evening.
The index case was someone who travelled from Johor to Sarawak due to the death of her father.

SIBU: The Armed Forces has sent six officers and 120 volunteers to help front-liners in Sibu in the fight against Covid-19, and they will be in the area until Feb 14.
Third Infantry Brigade Commander Brigadier General Dato Azhar Ahmad said in a statement that the group from Regiment 511 of the Territorial Army from Kuching Ria Camp arrived at the Rajang Security Area Command (Rascom) camp on Feb 4 where they were received by 9th Brigade Infantry Chief of Staff Lt Kol Anuar Ahmad.
They were given a briefing by Lt Kol Annuar on Ops Penawar and were also told to maintain a high standard of discipline, including abiding by the SOP.

Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting said in view of Sibu being the only division in Sarawak being imposed with MCO, strict adherence to the SOP among members of the public was crucial in flattening the Covid-19 curve.
KUCHING: Sarawak reported a new record high of 229 Covid-19 cases and two more fatalities on Friday (Jan 22), raising the death toll in the state to 24.

SIBU: Only one out of 23 people who tested positive for Covid-19 in a public screening here is not contactable by the health authorities, says a Sarawak assistant minister.
Dr Annuar Rapaee, the Assistant Local Government and Housing Minister, said on Wednesday (Jan 20) that the health authorities are now on a manhunt for the person.
He said this while refuting a report quoting state Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian that the 23 persons could not be contacted for various reasons.
According to Dr Annuar, from their records, 10 of the 23 persons are already in Sibu Hospital. Out of the 10, nine were there for treatment on Jan 17 and the other one was warded at the same hospital the next day.
