When Jake Moyle was a young 12-year-old dancer in St Austell he dreamed of big things.
The important role which An Táin Arts Centre plays in the cultural and social life of Dundalk and surrounding areas is highlighted in a series of short films This is Our Arts Centre which was shot last December.
The films focus on the local theatre, musical, dance and educational groups that have been unable to use the Arts Centre the way they once did prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The first film aired on An Táin s Facebook page last Wednesday (10th) and featured Pat McKenna who spoke of how he first got involved in amateur drama in a production of Paul Vincent Carroll s The Devil Came From Dublin in 1956. His involvement with amateur drama continued when he moved to Dublin and Canada and he later joined The Castle Players on his return to Ireland. He recounted his involvement with Dundalk Youth Theatre. John ‘Ecstacy’ Fletcher of US rap group Whodini has died at age 56. A cause of death has not been announced.
Whodini had their first US dance hit in 1983 with ‘Magic Wand’ but despite numerous Dance Hits and R&B/Hip Hop chart placements never managed to crack the US Top 40.
‘Funky Beat’ in 1986 charted at no 19 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart.
Whodini made six albums. The last was ‘Six’ in 1996.
