Freedom, accountability most crucial to media’s advancement: Hasan BSS 14th February, 2021 08:52:37 Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said on Sunday freedom and accountability both are the most crucial in the advancement of mass media. “Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had formed the Press Council aiming to ensure independence of the mass media, so that, media can act properly as the mirror of the society,” he said, addressing a discussion at Press Council auditorium in the city. The minister said the press council was formed so that media can refrain itself from publishing false and untrue information. Bangladesh Press Council (BPC) organised the discussion marking the ‘Bangladesh Press Council Day’.

Bangladesh Press Council Day tomorrow 393 DHAKA, Feb 13, 2021 (BSS) – Bangladesh Press Council (BPC) Day will be observed in the country tomorrow in a befitting manner. Bangladesh Press Council was established on February 14, 1974 by enacting the Bangladesh Press Council Act by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to protect press freedom and improve its standard. On the eve of the day, President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages greeting all concerned, including BPC , journalists and wishing all programmes of the day a success. ‘Realising that journalist society would be an associate force of democracy, Bangabandhu enacted BPC Act in 1974 to protect freedom of the press and its development, President Abdul Hamid said .

Application deadline extended for Bangladesh Press Council Award-2021 130 DHAKA, Jan 31, 2021 (BSS) – In view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the deadline for submission of applications for ‘Bangladesh Press Council Award-2021’ has been extended till February 10, 2021. The last date for application for ‘Bangladesh Press Council Award-2021’ was originally January 5, 2021 which was earlier extended till January 31, 2021. In recognition of the role of newspapers, Bangladesh Press Council gives this award to journalists and photojournalists for making investigative and creative reports and photos, said a press release. Applications have been invited for four categories. These are: rural journalism, development journalism, women journalism and photography/ video.
