The last date for application for Bangladesh Press Council Award-2021 was originally January 5, 2021 which was earlier extended till January 31, 2021. In recognition of the role of newspapers, Bangladesh Press Council gives this award to journalists and photojournalists for making investigative and creative reports and photos, said a press release. Applications have been invited for four categories. These are: rural journalism, development journalism, women journalism and photography/ video.

Writ filed to stop publishing identities of sexual harassment victims 146 DHAKA, Jan 19, 2021 (BSS) – A writ was filed today at the High Court, pleading for its directives to stop the media from publishing and broadcasting the identities of the victims of rape and sexual harassments. Barrister Mahfujur Rahman Milon filed the writ for human rights group Justice Watch Foundation. Home, information and law secretaries, Bangladesh Press Council and Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) were made respondents in the writ. “Publishing and broadcasting the names and photos of victims of rape and sexual harassment is banned under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000. But in many cases this ban is not being followed. So, we filed the writ for court’s direction to follow the act properly” Barrister Milon added.

Petition seeks HC order on restraining media from publishing rape victims’ identity Star Online Report Star Online Report A rights organisation today filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking its directive to restrain the media from publishing and broadcasting the identity of rape victims. Justice Watch Foundation submitted the petition as a public interest litigation to the HC, praying to it to pass an order to the authorities concerned to strictly enforce section 14 of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000 which banned publishing and broadcasting the names and photos of victims of rape and sexual harassment. In the petition, the organisation requested the HC to issue a rule asking the information secretary, and the chairman and secretary of Bangladesh Press Council to show causes as to why their inaction and failure to strictly enforce section 14 of the act should not be declared illegal.
