A day after the decision was taken to ban commuting at India-Bangladesh land port for 14 days, about 250 Bangladeshis were stranded at the Benapole-Petrapole border.
Many people who went to India for treatment of their relatives were unaware of the government s decision. They entered the neighbouring country but couldn t return to Bangladesh.
One of the travellers, Habibur Rahman, said, We came to India to get treatment with medical visa. I came to know that we will not be able to return to the country. We are running out of money. How can I stay here if I can t come back?
15 Bangladeshis stuck in India return through Benapole

Fifteen of the 300 Bangladeshis who were stuck in India s Petrapole land port returned home this morning through Benapole check-post.
They entered the country after receiving NOC from the Deputy High Commission office of Bangladesh in Kolkata.
They will be placed on a 14-day quarantine in a residential hotel in Benapole after completion of formalities.
Ahsan Habib, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Benapole Immigration, said he already received a letter to stop immigration for 14 days.
The 15 Bangladeshis were allowed to return as they got special permission from Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata, he said.

Bangladeshi citizens currently travelling to India for treatment and having visas with validity for less than 15 days could enter Bangladesh amid border closure following specified measures.
From 6am of 26 April 2021 to 6pm of 9 May 2021, general movements of humans between Bangladesh and India will temporarily stay suspended through the land ports.
But return of Bangladeshi visitors to country will be considered on emergency grounds.
The above decision came at an inter-ministerial meeting chaired by the Foreign Secretary (Senior Secretary) and attended by High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India; Secretary, Security Services Division, Ministry of Home Affairs; Secretary (East), Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Additional Secretary, Cabinet Division; and representatives of PMO, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Commerce, BGB and Banglad
Making of biopic on Bangabandhu progressing fast: Hasan

DHAKA, Feb 9, 2021 (BSS) – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said making of biopic ‘Bangabandhu,’ a joint venture of Bangladesh and India, is progressing fast as lion portions of the film have already been completed.
The minister made the comments after inspecting the making of the film, based on life and works of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, at Mumbai Film City, India, said a press release received here.
Prominent Indian filmmaker Shaym Benegal is directing the film commencing the birth centenary of Bangabandhu.
Health Education and Cultural Affairs Minister of Maharashtra Amit Deshmukh welcomed Hasan upon his arrival in Mumbai.
