Police have booked the Mercedes driver for the accident on Palm Beach Road
NAVI MUMBAI: Two sons of a Mumbai Police assistant sub-inspector were killed in a road mishap on Vashi’s Palm Beach Road in a head-on collision between their bike and a Mercedes early on Monday.
As the Mercedes driver fled the spot, APMC police have registered an FIR against him for alleged rash and negligent driving causing death. “We will obtain the car owner’s address from the Panvel RTO office on Monday and arrest him,” said APMC police sub-inspector Pankaj Mahajan. “As the driver fled the spot, we cannot ascertain whether he was driving drunk, hence Section 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act for drunk driving has not been invoked against him.”

The APMC police have arrested a 33-year-old man who was allegedly driving the high-end car that hit a motorbike along Navi Mumbai s Palm Beach Road early on Sunday morning. The two sons of a Mumbai police assistant sub-inspector were killed in the head-on collision.
The arrested person, identified as Rohan Sunil Abbott, is the son of a well-known hotelier of Navi Mumbai.
Pankaj Mahajan, police sub-inspector and the investigative officer confirmed the arrest and said that they would verify whether he was driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. âWe have brought him to the court for further custody,â said Mahajan.
Police trace driver who fled the spot
Two brothers were killed after a high-end SUV rammed into their bike at 1.30 a.m. on Sunday on Palm Beach road at Sector 19 in Vashi.
The victims, identified as Sanket Anil Gamare (30) and Akshay Anil Gamare (29), were the sons of a police constable from Borivali who is attached to the Mumbai Police. The brothers were returning from a party at a friend’s house. The SUV rammed into the bike outside K Star Hotel near APMC area. The driver of the SUV, who was heading to Belapur from Kopri village, abandoned the vehicle at the spot and fled. The brothers were thrown off the bike due to the impact and fell a few metres away.
