Set up isolation facilities for workers, builders told | Noida News

NOIDA: Developers of all real estate projects in the twin cities and Yamuna Expressway region have been asked to create isolation facilities for Covid-affected workers at their construction sites, builders’ body Naredco said on Thursday. While over 25% migrant workers have left the district for their hometowns, there are still around a lakh people working at some 250 under-construction project sites in these cities currently. The isolation wards at construction sites will have basic medical amenities, including beds, wheelchairs, oximeters and sanitisers. Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway authorities have directed Naredco to help in setting up these wards so that these facilities can provide contingency support to Covid-affected workers before the serious cases are shifted to hospitals.

The real estate body’s Oxygen Bank also became operational at its office in Sector 63 on Thursday. The builders’ body recently airlifted empty oxygen cylinders from Chennai with help from the Indian Air Force (IAF) and refilled them locally before handing over to Rajiv Rai, the sub-divisional magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar, in presence of Anil Kumar, the deputy commissioner (industries). Pankaj Bajaj, president of Credai-NCR, said, “We are grateful to the Indian Air Force for transporting the jumbo oxygen cylinders on priority basis. Most of the cylinders will be used at local hospitals and sector-level Covid care facilities.”

Noida: Flagging labour shortage at construction sites, builders’ body Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of Indian (Credai) has said delivery timelines of realty projects could be hit as more than 25% migrant workers have left for their hometowns. UP-Rera has taken cognizance of the situation and says it may offer deadline extensions to builders. Pankaj Bajaj, president of Credai-NCR, said: “Sourcing material has once again become a problem with weekend markets being shut, also over 25% migrant workers have left for their home towns. As a result, running day-to-day work has become a problem. We are not being able to stick to timelines. The completion deadlines of ongoing projects may be affected.” UP-Rera has taken cognizance of the situation. “We understand the current situation and may consider some relaxation for builders in the coming days, though nothing has been decided so far,” UP-Rera member Balvinder Kumar said.
