Ohio State community pays tribute to campus-area legend

It was a phrase Curtis Cunningham uttered countless times.
He was a fixture on the corner of North High Street and West 18th Avenue, just outside Buckeye Donuts in the OSU campus area, for years.
“First thing in the morning, around 7 a.m., he would come get a cup from me to get change in, and then he would go out there, and as people walk by, he would talk to the girls, talk to the guys, then he always said his famous slogan – have a great day,” said Dalton Perkins, who’s been a baker and cook at Buckeye Donuts for nearly four years.

I speak of the big red arrow at North High Street and Morse Road.
“A beacon for the community,” says Paul Da Silva, who celebrates it and other neon masterpieces in photos at columbusneon.blogspot.com and on Instagram.
I asked him for his thoughts on the arrow sign after news broke this month that Tee Jaye’s, the restaurant it so emphatically advertises, would close in May after 29 years. (The company will still have seven other Tee Jaye’s restaurants in central Ohio.)
Da Silva sees the free-standing sign as a gateway, for both Clintonville and the Morse Road commercial strip.
Police said the robbery happened at around 3 a.m. Friday.

COLUMBUS, Ohio The Buckeye Donuts store near the Ohio State University campus was robbed at gunpoint Friday morning, according to Columbus police
According to a neighborhood safety notice issued by Ohio State, the armed robbery happened around 3 a.m. when two men entered the store, located at 1998 North High Street.
Police said one of the suspects pulled out a gun and demanded cash.
The suspects took the money and left the store.
No one was hurt.
Officials have few details about the suspects.
