Feb 2, 2021 Ohio s official weather-predicting groundhog, Buckeye Chuck, is set to make his annual announcement today if there will be an early spring. Buckeye Chuck began predicting spring s arrival in the 1970s and was named after Charlie Evers, who helped create the Marion Groundhog Day Celebration. The Ohio General Assembly later declared Buckeye Chuck the official State Groundhog in 1979. Buckeye Chuck has recently predicted early springs in 2020 and 2019.

Buckeye Chuck has been predicting what the next six weeks of weather have in store for us since 1979 when he became Ohio s official groundhog. Here s how Chuck makes his predictions: if he sees his shadow, Ohioans will face another six weeks of winter-like weather. If he doesn t see his shadow, spring will come early.
