The nonprofit Hazel Miller Foundationa has announced grants it has awarded to local organizations for 2020 and 2021
Over the course of the 2020 grant cycle, the foundation approved several grants including Dawson Place Child Advocacy Center: a safe home to serve children up to 18 years of age who have experienced trauma; Concern for Neighbors Food Bank:, which collects and distributes food to homeless and low-income families; and Teachers of Color, which supports people of color pursing teaching careers in the Edmonds School District.
The following organizations received foundation awards during the first grant cycle of 2021:
The Edmonds Art Festival Foundation received a grant to support the Edmonds Art Festival, which has been held every year in June for the last 60 years. Workers at Concern for Neighbors Food Bank grappled with two burglary cases in less than a week.
On Feb. 27, a security video showed a suspect barging into a locked van and then stealing the vehicle.
As KIRO 7 produced this story, food bank workers located the stolen van a mile away. The vehicle’s license plates were missing, and a side logo had been covered over with paint.
Food bank workers said they found the stolen van in the nick of time because the demand for their help has spiked 25% during the COVID-19 pandemic.

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE, Wash. - The pandemic has forced more families to rely on food banks, but a stolen van left a nonprofit in Mountlake Terrace fighting to keep up with demand.
While the nonprofit called Concern For Neighbors Food Bank has always been grateful for the community it serves, that gratitude came back full circle thanks to the help of neighbors.

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE, Wash A good update came Tuesday after a van was stolen from a Mountlake Terrace food bank over the weekend.
The Concern for Neighbors Food Bank had its van stolen on Saturday. Around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, a neighbor spotted the van on a side street just a half a mile away from the food bank. The van had been vandalized and trashed inside, but otherwise seems to be salvageable.
