A former Kaeng Krachan National Park chief has broken his silence after the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) moved to ban him from the civil service for allegedly leading other officials to burn the houses of Karen villagers a decade ago.
Chaiwat Limlikit-aksorn on Friday wrote an open letter denying the allegation and accusing the anti-graft agency for senior civil servants of making the decision based purely on paper evidence without going out to check facts on the ground.

PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN: A Kui Buri National Park worker was killed by an injured wild elephant that charged a team sent to monitor its condition in a forest in Pran Buri district on Friday afternoon.
The park staff all ran for safety when the bull elephant ran towards them at around 3pm. They became separated but later contacted one another via two-way radios and agree to meet on a nearby road in tambon Khao Chao.

Chabakaew, a baby elephant saved after falling into a septic tank last year and taken care of by park officials, died on Wednesday at the Phu Wua Wildlife Sanctuary in Bueng Kan province.
Wanchai Chariyasetthachoke, director of Protected Areas Regional Office 10 (Udon Thani), said veterinarians of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation are performing an autopsy on the elephant.
They suspect the calf may have died from Elephant Endotheliotropic Herpesvirus (EEHV), or bad bacteria in its digestive system.
