EPAA tree plantation drive ends successfully 23 Dec 2020 Imran Mojib, Special Correspondent The Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA), Sharjah’s initiative to protect the environment by planting trees in every house and government offices took a giant leap as the authority successfully completed its two programmes aimed at furthering the cause. The EPAA has completed the implementation of the “Tree Planting in Governmental Institutions and Departments” programme and the “Tree in Every House” programme, both of which are initiatives to distribute seedlings to government agencies and residents. The authority distributed 4,700 seedlings during November and December, of which 2,500 went to six government departments, and 2,200 seedlings to 528 houses in nine suburbs of Sharjah.

Environment and Protected Areas Authority distributes 4,700 seedlings in Sharjah SHARJAH, 23rd December, 2020 (WAM) The Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) in Sharjah has completed the implementation of the Tree Planting in Governmental Institutions and Departments programme and the Tree in Every House programme, both of which are initiatives to distribute seedlings to government agencies and residents. The EPAA distributed 4,700 seedlings during November and December, of which 2,500 went to six government departments and 2,200 seedlings went to 528 houses in nine suburbs of Sharjah. The Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) in Sharjah and the Sharjah City Municipality have intensified inspections in a bid to rein in violations committed by campers and picnickers in the desert and green areas. Hana Al Suwaidi, the chairperson of the EPAA, told Khaleej Times that the inspection teams were conducting raids to curb damages caused to the ecology. The violations peak around this time of the year when residents and visitors go for outings the most taking advantage of the UAE’s pleasant weather.

Sharjah Sustainability Award gets huge response 20 Dec 2020 Imran Mojib, Special Correspondent The ninth edition of the Sharjah Sustainability Award has attracted 123 public and private schools, and 257 university students. The Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) launched the award in October 2020, with several precautionary measures and special conditions for participants in line with the country’s guidelines to ensure the safety of schools and students amid the current coronavirus pandemic. The award is held throughout the academic year and includes two categories, the first for school students and the second for university students. This year’s award conditions require participating schools to develop a plan of precautionary measures to implement the project due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, new domains and categories with precautionary measures have been added, such as, the Outstanding Student’s Award category that encourage stu
