(Shutterstock) POUGHKEEPSIE, NY A 21-year-old former city of Poughkeepsie resident was shot and killed early Friday morning. The North Carolina resident was with friends on the back porch of a home on Washington Street when someone shot more than 10 times at them from Marshall Street shortly after 1 a.m., the Poughkeepsie Journal reported. The man, whose name was not released, was taken to MidHudson Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Subscribe This is the second shooting in the city this week.

‘Suspicious’ Apartment Fire in New York Displaces More Than 20 Residents April 23, 2021 Fires at an apartment complex displaced more than 20 people on Sunday night, with authorities saying the blaze was suspicious and appeared to have been started in the recycling bins left on back porches. This is the second fire to break out at the apartment complex in Fishkill in eight months, though authorities said they did not know if the two fires were connected, the Poughkeepsie Journal reported. The recycling on seven porches was set on fire in three buildings, causing the residents of one building to be displaced, the newspaper reported. No one was injured in the fire on Sunday, Capt. John Ryan of the state police said.

The troopers said the Fishkill Fire Department and several other nearby departments extinguished the flames at the Village at Merritt Park. Firefighters were able to get residents to safety and no one was hurt, troopers said. The Poughkeepsie Journal reports the flames left 24 adults and two children in need of help from the Red Cross. Fishkill Fire Chief Daniel Burke told the newspaper firefighters found two fires at the apartment building when they arrived Sunday evening.
