Ease of living index 2020: Life in India s most unliveable city - Muzaffarpur

Small Large A ground report from Muzaffarpur, which was ranked lowest in the Ease of Living Index 2020, a government survey of cities across the country Muzaffarpur, the city in Bihar, where my ancestors come from – and where I also spent most of the lockdown working from home – has recently been declared as one of the worst cities to live in India. The findings of the Ease of Living Index 2020, a survey of cities across the country, conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, were released last Thursday. In the two lists – first for the 49 cities, with a million plus population, and the second for 62 cities, with less than a million population, Muzaffarpur finds a mention in the bottom of the latter. As someone who has the fondest memories attached to the place, I can assure you I am neither outraged nor surprised about this, and I can safely say, so are most residents of the municipality, which was formed more than 150 years ago in 1864.
