Houston has seen its share of gruesome crimes over the years, dating back to the apparent poisoning of Rice University benefactor William Marsh Rice in 1900. But the following can be counted among the most unsettling in recent history.
1970-1973 - Houston s most notorious serial killings - Elmer Wayne Henley Jr., Dean Corll and David Owen Brooks committed a series of murders in which at least 28 teenage boys and young men were abducted, tortured, raped and murdered. Many were lured to Corill s home in Pasadena where they died. Most of their bodies were recovered from Corll’s southwest Houston boat shed. Others were buried in remote areas of East Texas and at the beach. Henley, now 65 and serving six life sentences, said he shot and killed Corll self-defense. Brooks died in prison of COVID-19 last year.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A Nassau Bay man was convicted of kicking a law enforcement officer in the face and chest and sentenced to 13 years in prison, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday.
A jury convicted Anthony Earl Foreman, 30, on Wednesday of assaulting a peace officer, a second-degree felony. State District Judge Hazel Jones sentenced Foreman following a three-day trial this week, the district attorney’s office said.
Because he had been sentenced to prison before for a similar offense, Foreman faced a possible sentence of five years to life in prison.

The state s latest sales tax receipt report reporting numbers for November showed a wide disparity among Bay Area cities regarding revenue trends from those taxes.
On the plus side, the Jan. 8 report from the Texas Comptroller’s Office showed the percentage of sales tax revenue in Friendswood, League City, Dickinson and Seabrook all up by double digits compared with the same period in 2019.
