Image Source: IANS News Kabul, Jan 28 : In its latest report, the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) has revealed that more than 8,500 civilians were killed and wounded due to the war and violence in the country last year. According to the AIHRC report, civilian casualties in Afghanistan dropped 21 per cent in 2020 as compared to 2019, TOLO News reported. Unknown armed groups were the second highest cause of casualties after the Taliban, it said. Based on the report, the Taliban were responsible for 4,568 deaths and injuries of civilians during this period, while the unknown groups were responsible for killing and wounding 2,107, while the security forces were blamed for 1,188 deaths and injuries.

8,500 Civilians Killed, Wounded in Afghanistan in 2020: Watchdog The annual report of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) shows that over 8,500 civilians in Afghanistan were killed and wounded due to war and violence in 2020.   Based on the AIHRC report,  up to 3,000 Afghan civilians were killed and over 5,000 were wounded in war in 2020.       “Civilian casualties are still very high, we can say that there is a catastrophe going on in Afghanistan,” said Naeem Nazari, the deputy head of the AIHRC.   Based on the report, the Taliban were responsible for 4568 deaths and injuries of civilians during this period, the unknown groups were responsible for killing and wounding  2107, while the security forces were blamed for 1188 deaths and injuries.

Yakawlang Incident Victims Seek Justice in Peace Process The families of the victims of the Yakawlang district “massacre” in Bamiyan province said they want their voices to be heard in the peace process and that those involved in such crimes should not be granted immunity when it comes to ensuring justice in the peace efforts.  According to Amnesty International, the incident happened in Yakawlang district, Bamiyan province, in 2001 and 100 to 300 people were “killed by the Taliban” when members of the group overran the district.  “We hope that the peace negotiations end the bitter season of violence and bloodshed,” said Abul Mohsin Yasir, head of the Harakat-e-Islami Wahid Afghanistan party.
