Firefighters focused mostly on mop-up and containment efforts of the 14th Avenue brush fire in Golden Gate Estates on Monday, according to the Greater Naples Fire Rescue District.
The brush fire began Saturday near Desoto Boulevard South and 14th Avenue Southeast and reached 1,500 acres. It destroyed two homes and damaged three others in the Estates, while prompting road closures and voluntary evacuations.
The fire is currently 900 acres in size and 75% contained, according to the latest update from the Florida Forest Service.
“For the remaining 25%, we are still working to get that wrapped fully around but as long as the wind stays down that should assist us in being able to get the fire better wrapped up,” said Melinda Avni, a public information officer with the forest service.
