Big concerts returning to the VBC in Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Huntsville’s premiere concert venue is preparing for a big comeback after a year without big concerts.
Tickets go on sale for an upcoming Travis Tritt concert Friday, March 5th at the Von Braun Center.
This is just one sign that things are improving when it comes to the pandemic.
There are a handful of concerts scheduled for this year, including Reba McEntire and a long list of others who are already making plans to perform at the VBC.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Attention drivers in Madison County. A dangerous road in your area will soon see some safety upgrades.
$300,000 will be spent to improve Dug Hill Road. There’s currently no shoulder and there’s also no guard rails.
It’s a popular road, but it’s also a very dangerous road.
“We will restripe the area and put reflectors in the area and try to help with visibility because majority of the crashes that occur there, are where drivers have left the elevated surfaces of the road. We want to address that problem,” said Madison County Commissioner Craig Hill.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Rodney Smith Jr. is known across the country as the man who mows lawns for those in need.
Heâs now helping those impacted by winter storms, and encouraging others to serve.
âItâs like a whole army of volunteers. Kids are getting out there and doing something positive. Weâre just trying to encourage kids to learn how to give back. Right now, I think weâre on that path. We have 1,400 kids out there making a difference n their community,â said Smith.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Overnight shelters and warming stations across Madison County are once again taking care of a lot of people this week.
Employees at the Huntsville Downtown Rescue Mission opened the doors to the cafeteria at 5 pm, February 17th.
The CEO Keith Overholt says, more than 300 people are spending the night and they provide more than 1000 meals a day.
The Downtown Rescue Mission is not the only organization offering a helping hand.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - If you have an elderly neighbor who relies on a service like Meals On Wheels, you should check in on them.
Madison County Meals On Wheels is not running February 16th or 17th.
The organization uses volunteer drivers who donât feel safe because of the snow and icy roads.
Although this is very unfortunate for the 250 seniors who receive food from Meals On Wheels, the situation couldâve been a lot worse.
