Romania’s Promateris is to form a new division in order to locally manufacture raw materials from partially renewable resources, which are used in the production of compostable packaging.
The investment is part of the ‘Bio-based circular solutions to decarbonise the local economy’ project and has a value of more than €1.65 million ($2m). It is supported by a grant of €744,000 ($898,000) provided by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA and Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021, within the SMEs Growth Romania programme. The project is developed in partnership with the Norwegian company BioBag.
The Bio Compounds division will start the production of BioMateris next year. Romania is one of the EU’s key agricultural producers, and Promateris aims to participate in the development of a strong local bio-economy and an efficient use of natural resources.
