Nordic Aquafarms Maine land-based salmon farm still facing legal challenges

Nordic Aquafarms land-based salmon farming project has received all of its necessary state and city permits to build its 33,000-metric-ton land-based salmon farm in Belfast, Maine. But the project is continuing to see pushback from local opposition groups. On Tuesday, Maine opposition group Environmental Upstream Watch stated they had appealed all five of the permits granted to Nordic Aquafarms by the Belfast Planning Board. The appeals are over Nordic allegedly failing to meet application requirements, according to Upstream Watch. The group said Nordic s financial capacity did not meet regulated requirements after the city of Belfast expended extraordinary amounts of time and money on the project.

BELFAST  The Belfast City Council will gather for its regular council meeting Jan. 19, with  agenda items that include a request to add artwork to Belfast’ crosswalks, and a request to engage the services of a specific lawyer in relation to the “upcoming administrative appeal of the Planning Board permit decisions on Nordic Aquafarms, according to the council’s released agenda.  The Belfast City Council holds regular meetings on the first and third Tuesday of every month. The first agenda item, the adoption of a proclamation recognizing Jan. 19, 2021, as “A Nationwide Memorial Honoring Those Who Have Died from the Coronavirus.” The memorial will be recognized tonight by President-elect Joe Biden, with the American Hospital Association writing:
