Gates Police distribute poinsettias on Noel Drive, where house blew up 2 weeks ago

WHECTV Created: December 23, 2020 10:02 PM GATES, N.Y. (WHEC)  Gates Police spent part of their Wednesday evening going door to door along Noel Drive, not to investigate anything, but to bring some pre-holiday cheer. It was two weeks ago when a house on that street exploded, shaking up the entire neighborhood. Some residents living on the street were surprised when police and town leaders came bearing a gift for each house on the street just in time for Christmas.  It was a night no one here on Noel Drive will soon forget. One minute the house that sat in the now debris-filled lot was there, and the next it was blown to bits by a gas leak. Gates Police Chief James VanBrederode remembers that night vividly.

The Gates Fire Chief says an investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the County Fire Bureau determined that the explosion was the result of an accumulated concentration of natural gas inside the home.
