Zack Short belted a two-run homer during a five-run sixth inning and the Detroit Tigers opened their three-game series against the Texas Rangers with a 7-3 victory on Monday in Arlington, Texas.
Wily Peralta (2-1) allowed three hits with no walks and six strikeouts over seven scoreless innings for Detroit, which won its third game in a row.
Texas avoided the shutout with two outs in the ninth when Joey Gallo blasted a two-run homer off Bryan Garcia and Jonah Heim followed with his fourth homer.
The Tigers held a 1-0 lead against Rangers starter Kolby Allard (2-5) before breaking through with five runs on three hits and two errors in the sixth.

Peralta 7 scoreless innings for Tigers in 7-3 win at Rangers
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) Wily Peralta threw seven scoreless innings in his longest big league outing since 2016 and the Detroit Tigers beat the Texas Rangers 7-3 on Monday night. No. 9 batter Zack Short homered for the Tigers, who have won three in a row and five of six. Former Rangers outfielder Nomar Mazara twice drove in a run without a hit.
Peralta (2-1), back in the majors only three weeks, struck out six without a walk while throwing 61 of 91 pitches for strikes. The right-hander allowed only three hits in his fourth start for Detroit.
The conundrum began with the bases loaded and one out in the sixth inning.
Nomar Mazara slapped a pitch down the first-base line, which looked like a double play opportunity. Lowe made his first of two errors when he fumbled the ball. One run scored, and then a second run scored when Lowe made a throwing error. In an attempt to recover from his first mistake, he flipped the ball toward first base and expected starting pitcher Kolby Allard to cover the bag.
But Allard never showed up. We did a good job of hanging in there with our at-bats, put some pressure on them, took advantage of a mistake they made, Hinch said. All around good win.
