From snake bites to infections, these macchuas risk it all to clean your ponds | Noida News

Ghaziabad: There is the risk of drowning, snake bites and infection from animal carcasses floating around. But every morning, they throw risk to the wind and take the plunge, literally. They are the “macchuas”, or the fishing community of western Uttar Pradesh who clean your neighbourhood ponds that have been lying in neglect and under metres of filth for years. Be it snake bites, infection from the dense sludge or broken glasses, they know how to negotiate and come out of the muck. Some of these pond cleaners have been on the job for almost two decades, pulling out stubborn hyacinth or extracting tonnes of muck from the bed.

NBCC wants 4 weeks more for Wish Town plan | Noida News

Noida: The government-backed construction company National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) has sought from the Supreme Court four weeks more to assess whether it needs to submit a fresh and modified resolution plan to the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) for the construction of 17,000 flats in Wish Town. The NBCC application, submitted with the apex court on April 3, also says that it may not submit a fresh resolution plan at the end of four weeks if it finds the circumstances “unviable”. “It is submitted that the applicant is requesting for an extension of further four weeks’ time to assess the viability and feasibility of submitting a fresh/modified resolution plan for JIL. In case, submitting a plan in the circumstances stated above is found to be unviable, the applicant reserves its rights to not submit any further plans,” the application reads.

Broken swings, no railings: Parks in Delta 1 are in need of repairs | Noida News

Greater Noida: Six parks, spread over one to four acres, in Delta 1 Sector in Greater Noida need urgent repairs. While railings and boundary walls are missing in some, swings and benches are broken in others. Apart from these, horticulture work also requires attention in some of these parks, with grass and plants drying up. Residents said repeated complaints have not yielded any results from the Greater Noida Authority so far. Rishi Pal Bhati, RWA president of Delta 1 Sector, said, “The railings and boundary walls of the Rajesh Pilot Park are broken for six months. Open gyms are also lying in shambles due to the shoddy work done by the contractor. The equipment are damaged and our children are getting hurt. We contacted the authority and contractors, but no action has been taken yet.” He added that apart from repair work on open gyms, the broken swings and the iron railings also needs to be fixed.

Delhi-NCR: Dust storm again, expect a calmer day | Noida News

A view of dusty and windy weather in New Delhi. (File photo) NEW DELHI: For the third consecutive day, dusty and gusty winds swept the capital on Thursday. Weatherman said that strong dust-raising winds continue to sweep over Delhi-NCR due to the pressure gradient between Haryana and Gujarat and the presence of a cyclonic circulation over North Rajasthan and neighbouring Pakistan on Tuesday. Gusty winds of 40- 50 kmph were recorded on Thursday, with PM10 as the lead pollutant due to the transportation of dust. Met officials said that wind speed would start decreasing from Friday. Kuldeep Srivastava, scientist at India Meteorological Department, and head, Regional Weather Forecasting Centre, said, “Pressure gradient is the force that moves air from an area of high pressure to an area of low pressure. If the pressure gradient is strong, the wind speed is high and vice versa.”
