Nigerians groan as cooking gas prices surge again

By Tue Jul 20 2021 Nigerians have again bemoaned yet another increase in domestic gas prices, the fourth of such increases in two months. Findings by Daily Trust in Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Kaduna, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Ibadan and few other cities across the country on Wednesday and Thursday showed that marketers of cooking gas have increased prices of various kilogrammes (kg) of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) by about six percent. In the past two months, filling a 12.5kg cylinder had increased from N4,200 to N4,500 to N4,700 and to N5000, up from between N3,600 and N3,800 in March. In May, gas filling plants sold 12.5kg at N4,200 and increased to N4,500 in June and N4,700 by early July and N5,000 this week, mid-July.

Reps sound tough as NNPC, others shun summons

Punch Newspapers Sections Leke Baiyewu, Abuja The House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts on Thursday criticised the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Melee Kyari, and heads of the corporation’s subsidiaries for failing to appear before it. The committee said it was the 10th time the officials would write to defer their appearance at its investigative hearing on the audit queries issued against them by the Office of the Auditor General of the Federation, including unaccounted proceed of oil sales amounting to about N3.9tn. The subsidiaries with queries against them include the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company Limited, Petroleum Products Marketing Company Limited, Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency and the NNPC Retail Limited.
