After there was no positive sighting of a new crescent Tuesday, the Ramadan fasting continues tomorrow, the council said in a tweet.

The Eid-ul-fitr festival marks the end of Muslim fasting month, Ramadan, the ninth month of the lunar calendar where Muslims abstain from food, drink and sexual pleasure from dawn to dusk.
This is, however, subject to approval and announcement by the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), which is headed by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar.
NASRDA in a statement by its spokesman, Dr Felix Ale, on Monday, said from its calculations, the agency found out that the conjunction of the moon will occur at about 8:00pm on Tuesday 11 May 2021; while the first astronomical lunar crescent will only appear in Nigeria on Wednesday 12th May 2021 at about 8:30am.
Ale, who later spoke with Daily Trust on phone, stated that the very first appearance of the lunar crescent could not be seen on Wednesday morning with unaided eyes because of its size and barrier caused by light.

As this year’s Ramadan approaches an end, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, has ordered Muslim Ummah to look out for the crescent (moon) of Shawwal, 1442 AH tomorrow. x
He gave the directive in a statement issued by Deputy Secretary-General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Prof. Salisu Shehu.
The sighting of the new moon of Shawwal, according to Islamic tradition, signals the conclusion of Ramadan fast and the declaration of the Eid-al-Fitr celebration.
The document read in part: “In preparation for the 1442 AH ‘Idul Fitri celebration, the National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC) of the NSCIA has advised the President-General that the crescent of Shawwal should be searched for on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 equivalent to 29 Ramadan, 1442 AH.

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola has reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring the good conduct of statutory marriages in the country. x
Aregbesola, who made this known at the 2021 National Stakeholders’ Conference on the Administration of Statutory Marriage, on Friday, in Abuja, said this had become imperative due to the prevailing challenges associated with marriages in the country.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, in the ministry, Dr Shuaib Belgore, the minister noted that the ministry was responsible for the conduct of statutory marriages in Nigeria, as well as licensing of public places of worship for the celebration of statutory marriages.
According to him, following the advice of the National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC), the crescent of Shawwal should be searched for on Tuesday, 11 May 2021 equivalent to 29 Ramadan, 1442 AH.
“In preparation for the 1442 AH ‘Idul-Fitri celebrations, the National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC) of the NSCIA has advised the President-General that the crescent of Shawwal should be searched for on Tuesday, 11th May 2021 equivalent to 29 Ramadan, 1442 AH.
“If the crescent is actually sighted by informed persons on Tuesday night and His Eminence is so advised by the experts, he would address the Press to declare Wednesday, 12 May 2021 as the first day of Shawwal (‘Id day).
