Protesters burn police station along Kaduna-Abuja highway The police say miscreants attacked the Gauraka Police outpost, vandalised and set it ablaze during a protest over kidnappings on the Kaduna-Abuja highway 2 min read Youth protesting against rampant cases of kidnapping on the Kaduna-Abuja highway have burnt down a police station in Gauraka in Tafa Local Government area of Niger State which is on the highway. The protest, which began in the early hours of Monday, saw the youth of Gauraka mounting road blocks and setting fire to tyres on the major road. The youth were demanding that government curb kidnappings along the highway.

This followed an attack by gunmen on Angwan-Wazobia community on Monday where six locals were abducted by the assailants. Wasiu Abiodun, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, confirmed the attack on the community and the station in a statement. Channels Television had reported the demonstration by residents of Gauraka who blocked the Abuja – Kaduna highway to protest the incessant cases of kidnapping in the community.

Mob burns police station in Niger after gunmen kidnapped 6 villagers

Unknown gunmen attacked the Angwan-Wazobia community in Gauraka area of Tafa Local Government Area on Monday, May 24, 2021 and kidnapped the six residents around 3 am. A protest against the attack and recent similar abductions led residents to barricade both sides of the Abuja-Kaduna highway to air their grievance. Niger State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Wasiu Abiodun, said in a statement that the protesters later attacked the Gauraka Police outpost and burnt it. A reinforcement team of police officers was dispatched to the highway to restore normalcy. Abiodun also noted that a team is already making efforts to rescue the victims that were kidnapped.
