Police use stun gun on Decatur man with firearm, authorities say

DECATUR — Police said they had to chase a Decatur felon down and shoot him with a stun gun to arrest him after he was caught brandishing an illegally owned weapon on a city street. A sworn affidavit said members of the Decatur Police Street Crimes Unit and the U.S. Marshals Task Force began surveillance on the man around 2 a.m. Sunday when they learned he was carrying a handgun. After seeing the 27-year-old with the firearm in a lot in the 200 block of North Jasper Street, police moved in to arrest him, blocking his sport utility vehicle with a squad car.

Boyfriend hit woman as she held their baby, Decatur police say

DECATUR — Police said a Decatur boyfriend who slapped, kicked and strangled his girlfriend, even attacking her while she was holding their 5-month-old son, was arrested and jailed on Monday. A sworn Decatur police affidavit said the attack dates to the morning of April 26 and officers had been seeking the 44-year-old man before catching up with him Monday afternoon. The affidavit said the 23-year-old girlfriend has dated the man for the last five years and they also have a 1-year-old son. The girlfriend is quoted as telling police the assault began when she told her boyfriend she wanted him to take her home from a residence they were visiting in the 200 block of East Center Street.

A judge dismissed one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.  Justin D. Tate Police say Justin D. Tate picked up a runaway 14-year-old girl and force-fed her methamphetamine before making her perform sex acts and then raping her. He was arrested March 24.
