Who is currently leading Essendonâs best and fairest?
By
Essendonâs best and fairest award in 2021 is likely to be a three-horse race.
Zach Merrett, Darcy Parish and Jake Stringer have all had outstanding seasons and are the three names set to jostle it out to be crowned this yearâs Crichton Medallist.
Merrett, a two-time Crichton Medallist, is averaging career-best numbers in disposals and inside 50s and is ranked first in the AFL for uncontested possessions and sixth for goal assists.
Parish, one of the competitionâs most improved players, is averaging career-best numbers in disposals, tackles, clearances and inside 50s, while Stringer has won games off his own boot.

Media pundits are torn on whether Carlton is making the right call in playing Charlie Curnow this Friday night against St Kilda.
Curnow has not played since 2019, dealing with ongoing knee issues, but has been slowly building up for a return in the back half of 2021.
After months of training, he has run out in two scratch matches for the Blues and emerged unscathed.
Given Victoriaâs lockdown, Curnow hasnât actually played in a proper VFL match, but coach David Teague strongly indicated he was now available to be selected in the AFL side on Wednesday given everything theyâve seen.
