ORANGE COUNTY, CA The United States Postal Service Friday announced the removal of mailboxes across the Southland as a precaution taken amid the threat of extremist violence leading up to Inauguration Day. Without specifying the threat, the postal service announced plans to remove more than a dozen collection mailboxes in Los Angeles and Orange counties for security reasons amid threats of potential for violence surrounding next week s inauguration of President-Elect Joe Biden.Specifically, three mailboxes will be removed in Huntington Beach, a region of Orange County with a history of white supremacist violence.

SEATTLE The coronavirus situation in King County has worsened since the holidays, renewing public health concerns and fears that a more infectious strain could soon inflame an already troubling trajectory. Our COVID-19 rollercoaster ride continues with ups and downs, but we continue to see high levels of COVID-19 transmission and high levels of risk in our community, said Dr. Jeff Duchin, health officer for King County. This increased number of COVID-19 cases reflects activities people engaged in during the Christmas and New Year s holidays, including travel, family and social gatherings, and the ongoing spread of COVID-19 in workplaces and other locations across the region.
