Austin Peay State University Honors Program to offer biblical history, archeology class

Clarksville NowAustin Peay State UniversityA special biblical history and archeology class taught by Dr. Greg Glover will be offered this fall at APSU. CLARKSVILLE, TN. – When reading the Bible – particularly the Old Testament – it’s easy to forget that names such as “Hittites” and “Babylonians” are referring to actual living, breathing human beings and not fictional characters in a story. These people, living thousands of years ago, also cleaned bowls and plates after eating dinner and worried about their personal finances. This fall, the Austin Peay State University Honors Program will travel back in time, figuratively, to meet these people during a special biblical history and archeology class taught by Dr. Greg Glover, biblical scholar and pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Clarksville.

Will Warner-Discovery Merger Mean More Choices, Or Pricey Bundles? May 21, 2021 In a move that will reverberate in Hollywood and streaming media for years to come, AT&T announced Monday it plans to spin off WarnerMedia into a new entertainment company led by Discovery CEO David Zaslov. This has sweeping implications for family entertainment. Iconic brands such as Warner Bros. Pictures, TNT Sports, boundary-pushing TV network HBO, and consistently low-rated CNN will move under the same corporate roof as Discovery’s lifestyle and nature TV shows like “Property Brothers,” “90 Day Fiancé,” and “Shark Week.” The deal, expected to clear regulatory approval next year, will result in job losses as roles are consolidated. But the effects on consumer choices and streaming costs are unclear. Formerly an NBC executive who worked alongside newly christened Warner Discovery CEO Zaslov, Tim Winter now heads up the Parents Television and Media Council (PTC) in Burbank.

April 27, 2021 With the multiplying number of streaming services available, parents today often struggle to navigate these options to find uplifting, cost-effective entertainment that kids love. Last week, a new report from Parents Television and Media Council (PTC) offers help, ranking the top services according to monthly cost, viewing options for families, and parental controls. In 2020, streaming services accounted for 68 percent of all in-home viewing, according to a January survey. As streaming has ramped up, values clashes between these entertainment giants and their subscribers have created flashpoints, from Netflix (read: controversy around French film “Cuties”) to even Disney Plus with its not-so-quiet dismissal of “The Mandalorian” co-star Gina Carano.
