THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WALB) - Thomasville Fire Rescue was recently awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) of $248,000, which will fund 42 new Dragger Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), equipment that enables them to safely enter environments dangerous to life or health.
The FEMA grant aims to provide direct financial assistance to fire departments to equip and train emergency personnel, enhance efficiencies, and support community resilience.
“The purchase of the new SCBA’s will provide our firefighters with new safety features that were not included in our old equipment,” said TFR Fire Chief Tim Connell. “These new air packs will provide much-needed communication features for our firefighters and command staff while they are responding to calls, providing the firefighte

WEIRTON Gathered in front of the Weirton Municipal Building Tuesday morning, representatives of the city’s law enforcement agency, city officials and other guests paid tribute to the service and sacrifice of police officers across the country.
Peace Officer Memorial Day, to be observed Saturday, was established in 1962 with a declaration from President John F. Kennedy. The week in which it falls is observed as National Police Week.

Three members of Thomasville Fire Rescue (TFR) were recently honored with a pinning ceremony to commemorate their completion of fire recruit training.
Recognized during the ceremony were Donterrius Buck, and Jelani Muhammad who were promoted to Firefighter I, and Kevin White who was promoted to Firefighter III. The socially distanced ceremony held at TFR Station 1 was attended by family members, colleagues, and Team Thomasville leadership.
“It is an honor to lead the pinning ceremony of the newest members of our TFR family,” said TFR Chief Tim Connell. “Days like today are always special for me, as it marks the beginning of the firefighting careers of these young men.”
