A 7-year-old boy who drowned off the coast of Te Awa, Napier, was playing a game against crashing waves with his twin brother before he was washed away.
Te Ao Marama Te Pou, known as Marama, was playing in the shallows with brother Whetu and a friend when waves swept him away on February 21, 2020.

The son of Napier Senior Constable Bryan Farquharson says his father always treated the famous rescue of a boy from Marine Parade s surf as just another day on the job. Farquharson, who was part of the police force for 21 years, lost his battle with cancer on April 30.

The story of the kororā (little penguin) found tangled in a fishing line two weeks ago has had a happy ending.
On Monday he was released to the Napier Port kororā sanctuary by Rebekah Cuthbert, National Aquarium of New Zealand supervisor birds, and Liv Flynn of Hawke s Bay Bird and Wildlife Rescue Charitable Trust.
