A Havelock North man is yet to plead to charges relating to the death of a passenger and injuries to nine others in a van crash on the Napier-Taupō highway last year.
Nicholas Timothy Yorke, 19, faces one charge of careless driving causing death and nine charges of causing injury.

A 48-year-old woman has been charged with murder in relation to an assault in a Napier house in February. The victim, a 29-year-old woman, was injured in the assault in a residential property on Clark Ave in the suburb of Pirimai on the morning of February 1. She was found in a critical condition and rushed to Hawke’s Bay Hospital. Her condition remained unchanged, and she died on February 28. The accused woman appeared in Napier District Court on Tuesday to face a charge of murder. A charge of injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm was withdrawn.

He pushed a door into her, hitting her in the face. After she fell to the ground he punched and kicked her to the body. He then picked her up, threw her into a wardrobe and stomped on her ribs. Then he threw her onto a bed and raped her.
Stuff A few months later he assaulted and raped her again. On another occasion Taitapanui punched her in the face, causing her to fall on the kitchen floor. After dragging her across the floor by her hair he kicked her in the face, causing her to bleed profusely. When she asked for her phone, so she could call an ambulance he refused. After about an hour he threw the phone at her. It hit a wall and came apart. She put it back together and called an ambulance. She was taken to hospital and had six stitches to her face.

A man facing firearms and wounding charges relating to the early-morning shooting of three people outside a Napier bar has still not entered pleas to the charges.
Facing 13 charges, as well as charges relating to other incidents, the 24-year-old appeared via audio-visual link from prison today before Judge Gordon Matenga in Napier District Court.
