The crash on the Napier-Taupō Road. A teenager charged with careless driving causing death in relation to the death of a seasonal worker can now be named. Nicholas Yorke, 19, appeared in Napier District Court on Wednesday morning. An order for interim name suppression lapsed when he appeared. He faces one charge of careless driving causing death and nine charges of careless driving causing injury in the crash on the Napier-Taupō Road (State Highway 5) on October 18 last year. No pleas were entered.

Police allege in October last year, Yorke was driving a van of workers on the highway between Napier and Taupō. The van was about to turn into a road when a truck came in from behind, the police said after the crash. A 37-year-old Samoan man, Tino Tagiilima, died and nine other people were injured. Yorke was critically injured in the crash. He did not enter a plea and is due to reappear in court next month. Share this
