BRAINTREE The annual Braintree Beautification Day is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 8 at town hall, 1 John F. Kennedy Memorial Drive.
Volunteers will gather supplies, such as rakes, trash bags and work gloves at town hall and then get suggested work locations.
Target areas for this year s clean-up include the town hall mall, the Braintree Historical Society properties, the beach and park at Sunset Lake, Penniman Park on Cleveland Avenue, Smith Beach and along John LeRoy Way on the Braintree High School campus.
Mayor Charles Kokoros encourages residents to participate in the effort to show their hometown pride.

Sue, Andrew, Amanda and Adam Chin thank the entire Braintree community for the outpouring of support for the loss of their husband and father, Nelson Chin.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the funeral at Cartwright Funeral Home will be private. At the conclusion of the funeral, the family is inviting you to line the funeral procession route to remember and pay your respects to Nelson. The procession will begin at approximately 11:15 am. BRAINTREE – The town was hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic during 2020, with more than 2,000 residents infected and over 100 deaths. The pandemic closed everything from schools to South Shore Plaza, canceled events from summer recreation programs to the annual Braintree Day celebration, and generally upended lives throughout the community.
But amid the pandemic, there was one death that shocked the community: Laurie Melchionda s.
The health board member and longtime school nurse was shot to death by a man posing as a delivery driver at her Howie Road home June 17. A former neighbor, Robert Bonang, was arrested within minutes and charged with murder.
