Online antenatal classes a success despite bucking tradition

Online antenatal classes are proving popular in the top of the south and the antenatal educator says there are only benefits to moving the traditional courses from classroom to couch. Before the global pandemic hit, Nelson Marlborough Health ran a five-week course with a two-hour night class but all that changed just before New Zealand went into lockdown, ending all face-to-face interaction. Pregnancy and Parenting educator Kelly Mahuika said going online has allowed her to share her knowledge without time constraints and made the course more accessible.

And it looks like other towns are following suit. The rural community of St Arnaud had a serious wake-up call after a large fire ripped through another small settlement at Lake Ōhau several hundred kilometres further south. The fire at Lake Ōhau was one of the country s worst, destroying nearly 50 properties.
