Annual Pilgrimage Becomes National Tragedy: 44 Die In Lag b Omer Disaster in Northern Israel

Apr 30, 2021 Celebration turns into tragedy as 44 dead, over 100 injured in stampede in annual pilgrimage to revered rabbi’s grave. At least 44 people died and over one hundred were injured, many of the critically, when people stampeded at the annual Lag B’Omer pilgrimage in northern Israel. The largest mass event in Israel since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic suddenly turned into one of the country’s greatest disasters. An estimated 100,000-200,000 people were crowded at Mt. Meron in the northern Galilee area when some may have slipped backwards, starting a domino effect and causing people to flee in panic.

(Ichud Hatzalah) Over 150 people in Meron were injured with dozens of people succumbing to their injuries during the Lag BaOmer festivities. Approximate location of the tragedy. Ichud Hatzalah performed CPR on a number of students who were injured in the area where the Toldos Aharon Rebbe, shlita, was conducting a hadlakah in Meron. A group of people were descending some steps leading to a restricted area when the crowd surged forward and  people began tumbling on one another, causing many to be crushed by the stampede.

Man Barricaded At Gas Station Near Yosemite

Tuolumne County Sheriff s Office Logo Groveland, CA The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office is on the scene of an incident at the Yosemite Lakes Country Store gas station. The Crisis Response Unit is with a man who is barricaded inside. The store is on Highway 120 west of the Yosemite entrance gate. The sheriff’s office asks people to avoid the area and now that a large law enforcement presence is on scene.
