Letter to the Editor: Judge Cloyd Clark was a Nebraska original (3/12/21)

Friday, March 12, 2021 The Nebraska Arts Council has just learned the news of Cloyd Clark’s passing. Judge Clark was the author of many years of successful grants from our agency to help provide financial support to Buffalo Commons, which we consider one of Nebraska’s stellar annual events. Many of our staff members have traveled from eastern Nebraska to attend Buffalo Commons in addition to enjoying other cultural activities in McCook. I’d like to share the remarks our deputy director, Mike Markey, shared with me today when he learned the news: “Judge Clark was a character; a Nebraska original. One of the reasons I love traveling the state. He was a gracious host when my wife and I attended the Storytelling Festival. And, he was a great champion for Buffalo Commons and the McCook community. He leaves a great legacy.”

Local Musician Spotlight: Terri Jo Jenkins

Local Musician Spotlight: Terri Jo Jenkins Candace LeGault Share One of three daughters of an accomplished pianist and a fine singer, Terri Jo started her professional musical life at about age 10 singing three-part harmony with her sisters at a Nebraska county fair. That first show included “Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey.” There was no direct leap to jazz.  Rather, she has lived a life of all kinds of music that finally brought her to Denver and her much-deserved respect as a jazz singer. Through high school, she composed, sang contemporary folk and played her guitar, influenced by Joni Mitchell and others. Her first CD was called “The Dodson Sisters,” recorded when she was just 14 years old.
