Weaver police on Saturday afternoon discovered a woman dead and her 4-year-old son shot in the head at a Jacksonville home. They say the suspect fatally shot himself after leading police on a high-speed chase through Anniston and Oxford, including Talladega County.
Weaver Police Chief Wayne Bush said police received a call at about 1:02 p.m. Saturday, asking for a welfare check at a Juanita Lane residence. The caller said a 21-year-old man told his mother he d killed his girlfriend there.
The officer who responded found what looked like forced entry at a window on the back door.
When he and Calhoun County deputies went into the home, they found Katlynn M. Jones, 24, dead from multiple gunshot and stab wounds, and they found her son alive, but with a gunshot wound to the head.

WEAVER, Ala. (AP) An Alabama man suspected of killing a woman and shooting her 4-year-old son led officers on a chase through two counties before shooting himself to death in a field, police said.
Katlynn M. Jones, 24, was found dead with multiple bullet and knife wounds at her home on Saturday after Alex L. Haynes, 21, of Oxford told his mother he had killed her, according to a statement from the Weaver Police Department. Jones son suffered a gunshot wound to the head.
The child was sent to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, where he was listed in critical condition, and Anniston police soon located Haynes, who fled in a vehicle.

An east Alabama homicide suspect is dead after authorities say he first fatally stabbed and shot his girlfriend and critically wounded her 4-year-old son.
The ordeal began at 1:02 p.m. Saturday when the Weaver Police Department received a call requesting a welfare check at the residence at 97 Juanita Lane in Jacksonville, said Weaver Police Chief Wayne Bush.
