Jul. 10 California s grid operator issued a plea for Californians to conserve energy usage Saturday after a fire in southern Oregon tripped interstate transmission lines, siphoning a significant amount of power needed as California endured the strongest heat wave of the summer.
The California Independent System Operator said during a Saturday news conference that three transmission lines on the California-Oregon Intertie were taken offline by the Bootleg Fire in southern Oregon, and the state has lost as many as 4,000 megawatts of power into California s grid.

Fearing the threat of wildfires to transmission lines amid a sweltering heatwave, California electricity grid operators issued a call to the public to conserve energy from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday to prevent rolling blackouts statewide.
With temperatures rising across the state s inland regions, California s electric grid netted a new threat Friday night as southern Oregon s Bootleg wildfire doubled in size to nearly 76,000 acres, encroaching dangerously close to transmission lines used to import electricity from other states to California.

CALIFORNIA The Golden State extended its Flex Alert Saturday and asked residents to conserve energy for a second consecutive day as a rapidly spreading wildfire in Southern Oregon threatened vital transmission lines used to power California.
The alert from the California Independent System Operator originally came down Friday and asked residents to conserve energy from 4 to 9 p.m. On Saturday, CAISO again asked residents to lower thermostats and continue to conserve power during the evening hours.
