Flex Alert Sonora, CA–California’s Independent System Operator has issued a statewide Flex Alert for Friday from the hours of 4 pm till 9 pm. This is in anticipation of high power demand as triple-digit temperatures are a factor in a large part of the Golden State. Officials are asking all California residents to avoid running major appliances during the previously mentioned hours, setting the thermostat at 78 degrees, and unplugging any unused appliances or charging stations. The Flex Alert covers sundown because that’s when solar energy in the state is at its least effective and the strain on the electric grid reaches its peak.

Californians Asked To Conserve Energy Due To Extreme Heat

By Rebekah Gonzalez Photo: Getty Images California has issued a statewide Flex Alert for Friday, July 9. The alert will be in effect from 4:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. The California Independent System Operator (ISO) issued the alert due to the extreme heat and high demand across the state. NBC7, Flex Alerts are issued when the electricity grid is overworked due to high temperatures. ISO says it s a voluntary call on residents to conserve electricity. Such conservation would help ease the strain on the grid during the crucial evening hours when solar energy is diminished or no longer available, the ISO said.
