By Scott Wright MORE than 3,500 employees from 50 companies are on course to receive training to further their careers by attending government-funded courses at Glasgow Clyde College. The college has been delivering training under the Flexible Workforce Development Fund, which provided £646,463of skills grants to large businesses around Scotland last year. The scheme is now open to small and medium-sized enterprises, which are able to receive £5,000-worth of training at the college for employees. Large employers which pay the Apprentice Levy can continue to access training worth £15,000. Construction, management, journalism, IT, mental health and social care are among subjects covered by the training.
FUTURE OF EDUCATION
City of Glasgow College offers an extensive range of courses alongside a huge amount of invaluable guidance and expertise. FURTHER education is critical to Scotland’s social and economic future. Businesses need access to high-quality employees if they are to prosper, and the country’s college network is a primary source of training in the necessary skills. Educators and company leaders need to work closely together and this mutually beneficial dependence is nurtured by initiatives such as the Scottish Government’s Flexible Workforce Development Fund. City of Glasgow College is one of the primary institutions delivering training under this initiative. Its teaching has changed dramatically in response to the Coronavirus pandemic, with more than 500 courses delivered remoted to over 4,000 delegates since April.
