Every strong community is built on local businesses, but for local businesses to thrive they need residents who embrace them.
With more and more big box stores and chains taking local customers away from small businesses, keeping it local has never been more important.
Few have put in more work at ensuring local businesses in the Caledon area receive the support they need than Ward 5 Area Councillor Tony Rosa, a leader in the Love Local campaign.
Rosa has been at the forefront of the charge in Caledon on the importance of shopping and eating local and he’s been using social media to spread the word on all the businesses the Town has to offer.

Local author Glenn Carley strikes again with a new and unique book coming out this spring.
Around this time last year, we sat down with Glenn to talk about his then new book, “Good Enough from Here”, which told the story of a young man’s journey and experiences posted in the High Arctic at Canadian Forces Station ALERT.
Glenn spent two summers working on an environmental clean-up crew on the northern tip of Ellesmere Island in the 1970s.
Additionally, he grew up alongside Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Trenton as his father worked as a chief inspection officer as a civilian, where Glenn was introduced at a young age to military culture and an understanding of the work the Canadian Armed Forces did. This experience provided the inspiration to publish the book.
When the state of Oregon issued its shutdown orders in March 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Scott Givens was forced to make some very difficult decisions very quickly.
Givens owns Browsers Bookstore, which has locations in both Albany and Corvallis, and he has longtime employees at both stores.
âIn March, when everything shut down, I laid everyone off. I had to. It was terrible, one of the worst days of my life,â Givens said.
Nearly a year later, the situation has slowly improved. Givens has been able to bring employees back to work and his staffing levels are nearly back at their pre-pandemic levels. The entire experience, as painful as it has been, has shown the deep bond between local bookstores and their communities and created some new opportunities.
