A Noosa green energy lobby group is advocating council gradually increase electric vehicle only parking spaces as part of its emissions reduction strategy for climate change. Zero Emissions Noosa s response to Noosa Council s draft Climate Change Response Plan, now out for public comment, also includes the Kabi Kabi traditional owners having a greater say in land management practices. Among ZEN s other key responses is for council to explore imposing conditions on its tourism levy to encourage accommodation, cafes, restaurants and other businesses in the tourism industry to transition to low emissions operations. We also recommend the focus of the sustainable transport theme shift to reducing reliance on car travel in Noosa, the Zero Emissions Noosa s submission said.

ASX-listed Wilson Asset management chairman Geoff Wilson worries the values and insurance costs of his and other Sunshine Beach properties will be hit under proposals in the Coastal Hazard Adaptation Plan. Noosa is one of 32 councils in Queensland developing an adaptation plan to propose ways to mitigate damages from climate change as part of the state s QCoast 2100 program. Mr Wilson said the proposal lacked detail and was based on worst-case scenario mapping. Along with an increasing number of locals I am concerned the council has pre-empted its proposed plans with costly and harmful planning restrictions on people s homes while doing nothing to help the local environment, Mr Wilson said.

Subscriber only Rainbow Beach towing operator Carolyn Elder said a dead spot extending to the Leisha Track at Double Island Point was forcing people to call in rollovers and other emergencies using a pay phone at the Freshwater camping ground. Noosa Council with the backing of the local disaster management group including police, ambulance and coastguards is lobbying Telstra to fund an extra transmission tower as soon as possible. Absolutely it would be beneficial for people, Ms Elder said. We had those men that drowned on Teewah last year and you ve got to travel for a distance just to raise the alarm.
Tourism Noosa responded by sponsoring Noosa Villages Tourism Funding Boost Initiative that has stumped up $40,000 for an electronic touch screen information kiosk outside the Pomona IGA supermarket and a tourist information booth at Kin Kin.
Mr Moran said the investment would provide comprehensive holiday and visitor assistance designed to keep tourists spending and staying longer in the region. Making the great escape – a procession of Noosa walkers near Kin Kin.
“These information dissemination points at both ends of our region will promote authentic, sustainable and nature-based tourism experiences that define our hinterland holiday offering,” Mr Moran said.
“The information nodes augment the distribution of 60,000 printed maps of the Noosa Country Drive annually and the associated app that visitors can download to personalise their tour and stay.
