India’s retail inflation, measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), for March rose to 5.52 per cent from 5.03 per cent in February, showed government data on Monday. The upward revision was mainly on account of higher food and fuel prices.

Retail inflation rises again
Retail inflation, calculated on the basis of Consumer Price Index (CPI), increased to 5.52 per cent in March, up from 5.03 per cent recorded in February, showed government data released on Monday. Inflation in food basket, or Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI), rose to 4.94 per cent in March from 3.87 per cent in February.
Vegetable prices declined 4.83 per cent, while cereal and products and sugar and confectionery segments saw prices fall 0.69 and 0.53 per cent, respectively. This, however, was not enough to moderate the price rise in overall food basket.

New Delhi: India’s retail inflation, measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), rose to 5.52 per cent in the month of March. The retail inflation during the month of February was at 5.03 per cent. Note that this is the fourth consecutive month that the CPI data has come within the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) upper margin of 6 per cent.
