We can, amidst this mayhem of mendacity, take solace that words matter to cable TV culture warriors when qualifying as unforced, offensive, and witless blunders. Displaying fourth-grade obliviousness to the over ten thousand year lineage of “American history,” Santorum was buried in criticism a month ago, inspiring even hard-bitten pundits to wonder, “Are all Republicans, even those not awash in the worst extremism, that badly educated, getting dumber and dumber by just staying Republican”? The answer: apparently so.

After the first column about her prospective run for California governor, as I usually do, I checked the comments section under the links to the article (not for vanity s sake but to gauge reaction). I was a bit surprised to see all of the vitriol. Frankly, not since I wrote repeatedly about the damage Donald Trump was inflicting on our community had I read such detestation for another person from our readers.

The National LGBTQ Task Force s Creating Change conference a multi-day event that brings together some of the world s preeminent queer activists, artists, writers, and thinkers is obviously a bit different this year. Not only is the 33rd Creating Change, running January 28-31, completely virtual this year because of COVID-19, it takes place a week after Donald Trump s catastrophic presidency ended, less than a month after Trump s white nationalist mob stormed the U.S. Capitol, and serves as the last event with the Task Force s Rea Carey at the helm.
