When Amanda Wakeley first launched her fashion label in 1990, she had no formal training. Her work as a model had given her a little experience of the industry, while a £20,000 loan from her father provided enough capital for her to open a small studio in Chelsea.
It would prove to be a savvy investment. Wakeley quickly developed a following for her sleek, understated luxury designs, with Diana, the Princess of Wales, among her early clients. It was Wakeley that Diana turned to in December 1993, when she resigned from public duties, establishing the designer’s reputation as a reliable choice for key moments in royal life.

Mum thought she had the reflexes of a formula one driver. Her yellow car can only be described as a menace, I m glad it s off the road.
